Law 20-280, the “Limitations on the Use of Restraints Amendment Act of 2014,” originally known as the “Anti-Shackling of Incarcerated Pregnant Women Act of 2013,” was introduced in Council and assigned Bill No. 20-468. The Bill was adopted on first and second readings on December 2, 2014, and December 17, 2014, respectively. Signed by the Mayor on January 26, 2015, it was assigned Act No. 20-596 and transmitted to Congress for its review on April 22, 2015. D.C. Law 20-279 became effective July 25, 2015.
